Custom Burger Boxes That Survive the Drive

Every burger box has one enemy: steam. A hot patty releases moisture, that moisture condenses on the inside of a sealed box, and it lands back on the bun. Eight to twelve minutes later, the customer opens a container of excellent food inside a soggy bun and blames your kitchen.

Good burger packaging isn't decoration. It's a small engineering problem vent it enough to release steam, seal it enough to hold heat, coat it enough to block grease, and build it strong enough that a delivery driver can stack four of them in a thermal bag without the bottom one collapsing.

CustomBoxesZone builds custom burger boxes around that problem, then wraps your branding around the solution. Twelve formats, any size, food-contact-safe materials, MOQ of 50, and free shipping across Canada.

What Are Custom Burger Boxes?

Custom burger boxes are food-grade paperboard or corrugated containers made to your exact burger dimensions, with grease-resistant treatment, steam ventilation, and your branding printed on the outside. Unlike stock clamshells, they're die-cut to fit your specific build so the burger doesn't slide, compress, or arrive at an angle.

Every Burger Box Format We Produce

Format choice is an operations decision, not a design one. Here's what each style is actually for.

Custom Clamshell Burger Boxes

The workhorse. A hinged lid on a fixed base, one-motion close, secure tuck lock. Best for: high-volume QSR, drive-thru, and third-party delivery. Staff can load and close one-handed in under two seconds, which matters when you're doing 300 covers at lunch. We build these with a scored hinge that won't crack after repeated opening and a front lock tab that holds through transit.

Kraft Burger Boxes

Uncoated or lightly coated brown kraft with a natural, unbleached finish. Best for: smash burger concepts, craft burger bars, and any brand where "real food" is the positioning. Kraft is the most curbside-recyclable option in the range and takes single-colour ink beautifully. One caution we'll always give you: uncoated kraft has the lowest grease resistance, so we usually pair it with a greaseproof insert sheet rather than a full liner.

Custom Printed Burger Boxes

Full-colour CMYK across every panel. Best for: brands running seasonal campaigns, LTOs, or loyalty pushes. Digital printing means you can run 200 boxes of a limited-edition design without plate costs.

Slider Boxes and Mini Burger Trays

Compact, shallow-walled boxes sized for 2.5"–3" buns. Best for: slider trios, kids' menus, and catering platters. We die-cut multi-cavity slider boxes (2, 3, or 4 wells) so sliders don't roll into each other in transit the single most common slider packaging complaint.

Burger Combo Meal Boxes

A compartmented box holding burger, fries, and sometimes a sauce cup. Best for: meal deals, food trucks, and delivery-first brands. Compartmentalisation is the point: fries in the same open cavity as a burger steam each other, and both suffer. A dividing wall solves it for under a cent a unit.

Burger Trays and Sleeves

An open tray with a wraparound printed sleeve. Best for: dine-in, counter service, and anywhere the burger is meant to be seen. Fast to assemble, cheap per unit, and the sleeve gives you a full print surface. Not suited to delivery there's no closure.

Gable Burger Boxes

A folded top with a built-in carry handle. Best for: takeaway single-order service and premium gourmet concepts. Customers can carry it without a bag, which reads as premium and cuts your bag cost.

Window Burger Boxes

A die-cut aperture with a food-safe clear film. Best for: retail grab-and-go coolers, deli counters, and meal-prep burger brands. Visibility sells the product. Note that windows reduce heat retention, so these suit chilled and ambient sales more than hot service.

Double-Stack and Jumbo Burger Boxes

Extra-height walls for triple patties, tall builds, and loaded burgers. Best for: indulgent menu concepts. Standard clamshells crush tall burgers the lid pushes down and flattens the build, which destroys presentation before the customer ever opens it.

Mailer-Style Burger Boxes

A flat-folding box that closes like a mailer. Best for: premium gourmet burgers and burger meal-kit delivery. Sleek, stackable, and the largest uninterrupted print surface of any format.

Custom Hot Dog Boxes

Same food-safety and grease considerations, different geometry long, narrow, and shallow with a tuck-lock closure. Frequently ordered alongside burger boxes by the same kitchens.

Fries and Side Boxes

The natural companion SKU. Scoop-style or tuck-top, printed to match your burger boxes for a consistent tray presentation.

Burger Box Sizes Standard Reference

Every box we make is custom, but these are the sizes most Canadian kitchens order.

Burger type Recommended box size (L × W × H)
Slider / mini 3" × 3" × 2"
Standard single 4.5" × 4.5" × 3"
Quarter-pound classic 5" × 5" × 3.25"
Double patty 5" × 5" × 4"
Double-stack / loaded 5.5" × 5.5" × 5"
Jumbo / triple 6" × 6" × 5.5"
Combo (burger + fries) 9" × 6" × 3.5"
Slider trio (3-well) 9" × 3.5" × 2.5"

Sizing rule: allow 0.25"–0.5" of headroom above the assembled burger. Too tight crushes the build; too loose lets it slide and the toppings fall out.

Grease, Steam and Food Safety The Part That Matters

This is where most packaging suppliers wave their hands. Here's the real picture.

Grease resistance. Untreated paperboard absorbs oil within minutes, producing dark translucent patches that look unappetising and weaken the board. Your options:

  • Clay-coated board (C1S/C2S) good grease resistance, fully recyclable, best all-round choice
  • PE (polyethylene) lining excellent barrier, but not recyclable in most Canadian curbside streams
  • PLA (plant-based) lining excellent barrier and industrially compostable, though it needs commercial facilities, not a backyard bin
  • Uncoated kraft most recyclable, lowest barrier; pair with a greaseproof sheet

We'll recommend based on your menu. A dry smash patty and a saucy pulled-pork burger have completely different barrier requirements.

Steam ventilation. Small die-cut vents in the lid or side walls let steam escape while retaining most of the heat. Placement matters vents directly over the bun crown do the most good. We plan vent patterns per box, not as a default template.

Heat retention. Corrugated flute walls trap air and hold heat noticeably longer than flat cardstock. For delivery-heavy operations, E-flute is worth the small cost increase.

Food-contact safety. Every burger box we produce uses food-contact-approved board and inks, with no mineral-oil migration risk. Printing is on the outside surface; where inside printing is requested, we use food-safe ink systems only. Materials meet Canadian Food Inspection Agency and FDA food-contact requirements.

Built for the Delivery Era

Third-party delivery changed what a burger box has to do. It now travels 20–40 minutes, gets stacked, gets carried at an angle, and gets handled by someone who didn't cook the food.

  • Stacking strength we spec board weight so four loaded boxes stack in a thermal bag without deformation
  • Tamper-evident options perforated seals or tear tabs, increasingly expected by delivery platforms and reassuring to customers
  • Locking closures a tuck lock that holds when the bag tilts
  • Flat panel space for order labels and delivery stickers that stick properly (labels don't adhere reliably to heavy gloss lamination, so we leave matte zones where you'll be labelling)

Materials

  • Food-grade cardstock (12pt–24pt) the standard for printed burger boxes. Clean white print surface, good rigidity.
  • E-flute corrugated best heat retention and crush resistance. The delivery default.
  • Kraft (brown or white) natural, recyclable, on-brand for craft concepts.
  • Bux board economical for high-volume single-colour runs.
  • PLA-lined and greaseproof-lined stock for high-moisture, high-sauce menus.

All stocks are recyclable, with FSC-certified and post-consumer-recycled options across the range. Given provincial EPR reporting, mono-material curbside-recyclable board is usually the smartest long-term choice.

Printing and Finishing

Printing: Offset CMYK for volume, digital for short runs and seasonal versions, plus up to 2 PMS spot colours for exact brand matching. If your red has to be your red across burger boxes, fries boxes, and hot dog boxes, spot colour is the only way to guarantee it.

Finishes: gloss lamination, matte lamination, soft-touch, aqueous coating, gloss and matte UV, spot UV, foil stamping, embossing and debossing.

What actually works on burger packaging: matte with spot UV on the logo photographs well and looks premium and burger packaging gets photographed constantly. High gloss shows every fingerprint and grease mark. Kraft with a single bold ink colour is the most reliable "craft burger" signal in the category.

Free structural and graphic design comes with every order, plus a 3D digital mock-up before production and physical samples on request.

Wholesale Burger Boxes the Cost Conversation

Restaurant operators don't buy packaging by the box. They buy it by the cost per order.

Ordering burger boxes wholesale brings that number down in three ways: plate and setup costs amortise across the run, board is bought at volume, and you stop paying rush freight to cover stockouts. A brand ordering 500 boxes monthly typically pays significantly more per unit than one ordering 5,000 quarterly — same box, same print.

That said, our minimum order is 50 boxes. A new food truck testing a concept shouldn't have to warehouse a pallet to find out whether the design works. Start small, prove the SKU, then scale into volume pricing.

Who We Package For

Independent burger restaurants, smash burger concepts, fast-food franchises, food trucks, ghost kitchens and delivery-only brands, pubs and sports bars, catering companies, stadium and event concessions, grocery hot-food counters, and meal-kit brands shipping burger kits.

Serving Burger Brands Across Canada

We ship free to every province and territory, with regular orders from kitchens in Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa, Hamilton, Montreal, Quebec City, Vancouver, Surrey, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Halifax.

Boxes ship flat and pre-glued, which cuts freight volume dramatically for a 10,000-box run, flat shipping typically saves more than half the freight cost of pre-assembled cartons, and stores in a fraction of the back-of-house space. That second point matters more than most operators expect; kitchen storage is expensive real estate.
